What Does Indonesian People Usually Do ?

The aim of this report is to present what free time activities most Indonesian people usually do in their free times. I had a survey from internet and i asked all the people in my family. Also, i observed Indonesia people's lifestyle. Mostly in Jakarta and another big cities.

The majority of Indonesian people likes to hangs out with their friends. Basically, it based on the age and the communities. For example, mostly, man adults likes to spend hours at the coffee shop to have a very long conversation with their friends accompanied with a glass of coffee. All the teenagers likes to hang out with their friends. Usually, they watch movies, shopping, or sometimes just wandering around.

Some people choose to spend their free time in the community. In Jakarta, there is a lot of communities. Community is the place that you can spend your time doing your hobby with a bunch of people who also have the same hobby. For example, the biggest community in Jakarta. Cycling community. Because the number of cycling community's member is very big. The government decided to make a personal track for the people who use a bicycle for their transport.

From the text above. I conclude that Indonesian people is a very sociable people. they prefer to spend their free times with friends or family rather than just spending it alone. They like to join a community and busying themselves in that community to make the community  bigger.

Youngsters and it's culture

The purpose of this report is to tell the readers about the opinion of the youngsters about Indonesia’s traditional culture. As we all know, Indonesia is a nation that consist of hundreds of culture, from Sabang (Aceh) to Merauke (Papua). Furthermore, Indonesia is well-known as the paradise of culture. So I interview some of my friend and ask their opinion about this nation’s traditional culture, due to the fact that the young generation is rather careless about their own culture.

I ask them to tell what kind of Indonesian culture do they know. Most of them said Pendet (famous Balinese dance), Reyog Ponorogo (a trance-dance from Ponorogo, East Java), wayang orang (traditional Javanese, Balinese, and Sundanese theatre), Gamelan (a Metallophone orchestra from the island of Java and Bali), Angklung (a bamboo orchestra from West Java) and a much more culture from around Indonesia. Then I ask them do they still care of their own culture, and all the answer said yes, with a different reason. So what do they do to preserve their culture? In this case, all the answer were different, but the point of it was the same; as a youngster, we shall care, love and learn more about our culture so we can protect it and they’ll never extinct

About the negative cultural issue and facts that happened in this global era, they said it was the responsibility of all people of the nation, especially the youngsters. Many modern people of Indonesia prefer the “west culture” because in their opinion, traditional culture is not up to date, lame, expired, and many more. But one thing that they don’t realize is, this nation won’t exist without the diverse of those cultures. So, as said above, we shall care, love and learn more about our culture so we can protect it and they’ll never extinct. Furthermore, culture is the primary identity  and also a life-guidance of a nation itself. Without its culture, Indonesia is just like a shirtless person. I hope, there's still some Indonesian who really care, no, not just care, but also love his/her traditional culture.

                                    IMAGE OF INDONESIA
The purpose of this report to show all the readers which type of food and beverages that Indonesian citizens like. I interviewed 10 people that consist of my friend and my family by handphone or in person.

Over three quarters prefer Indonesian food than other countries food. And 55% prefer Padangese food mostly Padang Satay. And 22% choose Javanese food like Gudeg or Sundanese food like Pepes for their favourite Indonesian food. The others choose other countries food like Spaghetti, Gyudon (Japanese Beef Bowl), and Lamb Chop. For the beverages, one quarter choose carbonated drinks like Coca Cola and Fanta. Three-quarters choose mineral water and bottled tea(Teh Botol) for their favourite beverages.

It is not surprising that many Indonesian people prefer Indonesian food.Because  Indonesian food’s flavour is suitable for their tongue and delicious and the other countries food is delicious but not so suitable with their tongue.Bottled tea that also known as Teh Botol in Indonesia is popular with Indonesian people. So it is not surprising that bottled tea is favourite beverage for Indonesian people. Soda drink has so many bad effect for our body that make people leave them. So it is not surprising that Indonesian people not really like carbonated drinks.

Behind the Government's Claws

If you were living in Jakarta, especially in Central Jakarta, your eyes will recognize the big, tall poles in the middle of the asphalt road. If you weren’t, perhaps you have seen some news about it. The monorail project which was declared by the province government of Jakarta in 2004.
I still remember the excitements when Mr. Fauzi Bowo said that we’re going to have the new transportation system; the monorail. All television and radio channels reported all movements which had relations with the monorail project; almost 24 hours per day. ‘The Monorail Project Will Open for Public in a Few Years’. This was the banner in one of those news channels. But it’s 2011, and those poles still stand half-touched in the middle of the crowds.
Actually, it’s not just about the monorail. If we take a look at our back, we’ll find some cases which have similarities with the monorail project; which represented Indonesia as such a country. These cases also consolidate Indonesia’s image as a country with low personality integration. I’ve studied some of them and interviewed my friends about these big cases related to the government—not just Jakarta’s government. The purpose of this report is to tell people about Indonesia’s images about the government from 40 teenagers’ perspectives. I’ve asked them three questions—their opinion about the failed monorail, government’s act in Sidoarjo Mud Flow case, and their thoughts about Corruption in Indonesia.
The Monorail Project
The construction of the pylons started on June 2004, stopped a few weeks after the owner ran out of funds. This project leaves countless support pillars of the stalled project all around the Central Jakarta, especially the Senayan area.
100% of the people said that this project was useless. One of them said that the government was taking the wrong decision by building those pillars without thinking about their funds. A little of the people said that they still hope for the government to rebuild monorail system—even it seems like an impossible thing today; reviewing at our limited funds.
Sidoarjo Mud Flow
May 2006, the biggest mud volcano in the world started to erupt in Sidoarjo, East Java. This was created after the blowout of PT Lapindo Brantas’ drilled well, although some geologists claimed that this was happened because of the nature’s condition and earthquake. The government of Indonesia tried to do a lot of things, in purpose to stop this mud flow and to help the victims.
Almost every people said that the government’s acts were not enough. There are a lot of people who need a better place to live, and it’s the government’s job to arrange it. They said that the government’s acts were too slow, compared with the massive problem in Sidoarjo. A little of the people said that it’s not the government’s fault at all; we can’t predict nature. The rest remained silent.
Corruption in Indonesia
27 July 2011, Marzuki, the chief of People’s Representative Council (or Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat in Indonesian) said that it is better for Indonesia if we don’t have any Corruption Eradication Commission (Komisi Pemberantasan Korupsi). 90% of the people I’ve interviewed said that Marzuki’s words are nonsense. They said we still need the Corruption Eradication Commission. 10% of the people said that we don’t need any; because they don’t see any result from the Corruption Eradication Commission.
From the first two questions, I conclude that almost everyone I've interviewed didn’t like how the government’s act. But from the third question, I can conclude that people still need the government to control the problems in Indonesia. This is shown in their opinion that they’re against Marzuki, which was trying to change the Indonesia’s system by erasing the Corruption Eradication Commission. I myself have to admit that if I interviewed myself, I’d be in those people who disagree with the government but protecting the Corruption Eradication Commission from Marzuki’s plan.
So this is up to us right now, the new generations. We decide the next path for Indonesia. We are the one and only who could change the images of Indonesia. I am Sarah Radian from group 6 XD of Labschool Kebayoran High School—and this is my report.
